Additional Information

Kyrgyz nomads have called the mountains of Kyrgyzstan home for many millennia. Likewise, the rich traditions of colorfully outfitted yurts, hearty mountain food, traditional folk music, and fascinating horse games have developed over time. This day tour pulls together the region's most notable nomadic traditions into a full day spent living as a nomad. You'll feast in a traditional yurt to the sounds of traditional music — wonder at the beautiful sound of a komuz as musicians share with you traditional sounds of the nomads.

Horses remain an important part of Kyrgyz life to this day and after lunch you'll marvel as the make their way across the mountains in a lively display of traditional horse games. Other games are also selected as an immersive and interactive experience of the region's best nomadic games. These games and sports are still practiced at local festivals, weddings, and events. During this experience, travelers are invited to try their hand and join the fun. Afterwards, the hiking nearby is suitable for hikers of any skill level, from gentle strolling to a short-but-challenging hike to a nearby vista.

Since many of the activities of the day will be outside and in the mountains, be sure to dress in warm, comfortable clothes and shoes suited for the outdoors. This is also a full day in nature, so bring your cameras fully charged. We'll pick you up just after breakfast, and you'll have a full day outside of town, enjoying the rich traditions of the Kyrgyz nomads. By the time you return to your guesthouse that evening (in time for dinner!), you'll have a trove of memories and photos to enjoy.
